Fixing Ethernet/Gadget for Mac OS X

In order to use Ethernet/Gadget with Mac OS X:

Compile your own kernel:
  • deselect RNDIS Support
  • deselect Ethernet Emulation Model (EEM) support
  • CDC Composite Device (Ethernet and ACM) aktivieren

Either use "Internet Sharing"

or use

#!/bin/sh

sysctl -w net.inet.ip.fw.enable=1
sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
natd -interface en1
ipfw add divert natd ip from any to any via en1

Building your own Wifi adapter

I had cheapo usb wifi adapter laying around:

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0df6:003f Sitecom Europe B.V. WL-608 Wireless USB Adapter 54g

I split the plastic case open...

... and set the little pbc free... (Check out the antenna design in the upper left corner)

... soldered 4 cables...

... and connected them to the wifi module port using the information from http://www.acmesystems.it/pinout_arietta. It's important to note that this module also works with 3,3V (I tested it before soldering the wires).

A littel shrink tube and electrical tape:

Wlan0 configuration

The rt2800usb driver sometimes has some issues. Disabling power management helps a lot.

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
	post-up iwconfig wlan0 power off
	wpa-ssid "myssid xxx"
	wpa-psk "my passowrd xxx"
